Fantasy frocks for awards season

10 Jan

Why I’d be looking East for my posh frock inspiration.

Much like my bonnet and shawl daydreams within which I’m skipping along summer meadows, crossing styles and stepping aside for a handsome traveller on horseback to pass (am I getting carried away?), I also fantasise about getting dressed for the Oscars, walking down the red carpet all dewy skinned, charming and long legged (obvs not me) and later thanking God and my agent for my Best Actress win.

Ok, back to reality. But let’s imagine for a second that getting an invite to a big deal awards ceremony actually happened.  You’re holding the invitation in your hand.  You’ve called all your relatives. You’ve updated your Facebook status. You’ve telephoned work to request leave and booked the babysitter.  Then panic sets in.  What in the hell are you going to wear???!!!

Well luckily, should this very thing happen to me, I’ve had the foresight to think it through and I’ve decided that I’d be ditching the European fashion houses (thank you but no thank you, Mr Lagerfeld) and heading East where they know a thing or two about demure dressing with glamour using sumptuous lengthy fabrics and glitzy adornments.

Indian designers are all about the drape, there’s the odd cape for good measure, use of the stunning traditional lengha skirt, asymmetric off-the-shoulder pieces and enough bling to give JLo a run for her money.

The Golden Globes are on Sunday which means the start of a season of pouring over beautiful frocks will begin on Monday morning. See you on the other side Style Icons (and good luck with that award).
