Are tracksuits a thing…

16 Jan

… or have I been on the Costas for too long?

It seems the weekend leisure-wear of choice for our Spanish friends is a good old-fashioned – dare I say it – 80s style trackie with classic Adidas stripes down the sides. Oh yes, whether you’re shopping, meeting family at a cafe or strolling along the beach, a tracksuit will do nicely. And why not?

But a style statement?

Just this week I read an Elle magazine interview with a London based stylist who is quoted “my dream outfit is a tracksuit!”. You’ll understand I’ve scanned the catwalk shows and all that’s come close is Stella McCartney’s Adidas sportswear range.

Four months away from home is a long time in the street-style world. I’m losing… track. Send news!

    Hi Betula,

Marvellous observations as per usual and I’ve been following your style observations of the satorial (or not so) Spanish.
Now the Trackie. However much I try to admire ‘sports style’ from the catwalk Gods, it has always been too much of a reach for me to separate the Stereotypical Scally shellsuit from the Beastie Boys sexy street wear. So I’m surprised at the Spanish who I have always imagined swathed in structured suits in the week, keeping their leisure wear for their siesta.

For me, it can never be a style statement, forever and eternally entwined with the crotch grabbing, arse scratching, pavement-spitting juvies of my youth.
It’s a lifestyle choice. And that, I can live with.

You are a shining star in the dark virtual world Betula!xx

Thank you so much for paying attention to my posts Katie D.

I’m catching up on The Soprano’s – right back to S1 – and by coincidence Mrs S was sporting an aqua blue metallic-look shell suit in last night’s viewing indulgence. Hard not to feel the love now.

But keep your eye on the Brighton fash-pack. I agree we’re not ready for a head-to-toe sportswear revival, they may need a word. Soprano style (said in Italian drawl obvs).

      Much much love xxxxx
